How to stay in (relatively) Good Shape over Christmas

So it’s now officially December and socially acceptable to put up your Christmas tree, blast out Slade and Wizzard in the car and drink hot wine (even though it’s something that people avoid like the plague all year around)! And with the most wonderful time of the year comes the temptation of mince pies, copious amounts of alcohol, meals out and uncomprehendably large tins of chocolate *drools uncontrollably* which all leads of the majority of people putting on a bit of timber over the course of the next month.

But does it have to be this way? Is it actually possible to enjoy yourself in the build up and over Christmas and not gain a lot of weight? Let’s discuss…

Go Hard or Go Home

There’s more to life than treadmills and low calorie meals and Christmas is one of those times which is meant to be enjoyed with your friends and family. Here are a few tips on letting loose without going completely mental:

  • Enjoy yourself at the parties/events that you go to, but carry on as normal every other time with your diet. Cut loose when it’s party time, but cutting loose everyday and splurging on everything in sight is where the issues start.
  • Keep training – the extra calories that you consume *should* mean that you have lots of energy so put that energy to good use and carry on training as normal. Lift some heavy weights, go on that run, beast that spin class – whatever your game is, don’t let it falter.
  • Plan goals for 2018 now. This will give you a good mental focus and reignite your motivation. Plus, you can think to yourself that if you train hard and eat decent around the social events now then you can give yourself a head start on your 2018 goals

Summary

So there you have it, a few quick and easy to follow tips on how to limit the damage from the extravagance of the Christmas period! And if you currently aren’t exercising or watching what you eat then don’t feel like you have to wait until January to start – start now and you’ll feel all the better for it!
